Description Islamic boarding schools or Islamic boarding schools are a manifestation of the natural process of developing the national education system. From a historical perspective, pesantren is not only identical with the meaning of Islam, but also contains the meaning of Indonesian authenticity (indigenous). This is because an institution which is similar to a pesantren has actually existed since the time of Hindu Buddhist rule. So that Islam just continues and Islamizes existing educational institutions. Of course this does not mean diminishing the role of Islam in pioneering education in Indonesia.
The main method of the teaching system in the pesantren environment is carried out through the teaching of the yellow book in stages, from the basic books, short and simple books, then to the intermediate level and only after finishing stepping on the takhassus books. And in teaching methods such as sorogan, bandongan, memorization, mudzakaroh and majlis ta'lim are used.
The values ​​possessed by the pesantren must be developed. Not only for the pesantren, but for education outside the pesantren. Islamic systems and values ​​are very suitable to be developed anywhere, especially in an educational institution. The values ​​possessed by the pesantren include (1) sincerity, (2) simplicity, (3) attitude of help (ta'awun), (4) brotherhood (ukhuwah), and (5) freedom. So that this gives as wide a space as possible to instill a good character in humans, especially the youth.
