Description This paper is a media study that seeks to see the phenomenon of pop culture which has now become an icon of modern society. The object to be studied is the infotainment program that is broadcast on television. Of the many dimensions inherent in infotainment, this paper will only anchor on the value of popularity which is assumed to be the main capital for the survival of the program. The question that is often troubling is what forces have made infotainment a very popular television program and persists to this day. To answer this question, Stuart Hall's theory of media production and reception and Noam Chomsky's media propaganda will be used. Through these two approaches, it is clearly illustrated that the popularity of infotainment is determined by the involvement of media actors and media owners who are highly negotiable and hegemonic.
