One of his remarks as the implementation of the idea of "indigenous Indigenous Islam" which once contained controversy, namely "Assalamu'alaikum" which was equated by Gus Dur with "Ahlan wa Sahlan and the idea of" Pribumi Islam "made a commotion among the NU itself. According to him Islam does not come into conflict with culture, but both of them enrich each other, even though there are differences. Islam is peaceful and anti-violence, therefore Muslims need not act violently in defending Islam with any action, let alone in the name of Islam.. Islam itself is anti-violence, Islam is peaceful and secure. Islam should protect people who are weak and protect from arbitrary acts outside the law that are often carried out by organizations that act arbitrarily and willingly. Islam sided with the oppressed minority. According to him the relationship between Islam and the State with two offers, namely making Islam as a social ethic in the life of the state and the introduction of Islam. Abdurrahman saw the Indonesian nation at that time there was a product of the intense struggle of primary concern: revitalizing the traditional Islamic treasures, gait of modernity, and seeking answers to concrete problems that were addressed by Muslims in Indonesia.
Gus Dur pemikir yang sering mendapatkan tentang dari orang lain. Salah satu lontarannya sebagai implementasi gagasan ”pribumisasi Islam” yang pernah mengandung kontroversi, yaitu ”Assalamu’alaikum” yang disamakan oleh Gus Dur dengan ”Ahlan wa Sahlan dan Gagasan ”Pribumisasi Islam” ini membuat geger di kalangan NU sendiri. Menurutnya Islam datang tidak pertentangan dengan budaya, melainkan keduanya saling memperkaya, walaupun ada perbedaan. Islam damai dan anti kerasan, maka karena itu orang Islam tidak perlu bertindak dengan kekerasan dalam melakukan pembelaan terhadap Islam dengan tindakan apapun, apalagi atas nama Islam. Kecuali tindakan itu dibutuhkan sesuai agama Islam itu sendiri. Islam itu damai dan terentam. Islam seharusnya melindungi orang-orang yang lemah dan melindungi dari tindakan sewenang-wenang di luar hukum yang disering dilakukan oleh ormas yang bertindak seenaknya dan kemauannya. Islam berpihak padan minoritas tertindas. Menurutnya hubungan Islam dan Negara dengan dua tawaran, yaitu menjadikan Islam sebagai etika sosial dalam kehidupan bernegara dan pribumisasi Islam. Gus Dur melihat bangsa Indonesia pada saat itu ada produk dari pergumulan intensifnya kepedulian utama: revitalisasi khazanah Islam tradisional, kiprah modernitas, dan persoalan konkret yang dihadapi umat Islam di Indonesia. |
