Description The characteristics of breeders are one of the factors that influence the level of innovation adoption in the development of livestock business. This study aims to determine the characteristics of beef cattle farmers in Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency, West Sumatra Province based on demographic factors. This research was conducted in September-October 2020 in the Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency. This research is a qualitative descriptive using survey method. The parameters studied were the characteristics of cattle breeders based on demographics, namely characteristics based on age, sex, length of breeding, education level, and number of livestock kept. The results of this study are the characteristics of beef cattle breeders based on the age of 51-60 years (36.51%), the sex of most of the men as many as 52 people (82.54%), the length of raising more than 10 years (73.01%), the level of education of farmers mostly 26 people graduated from elementary school (41.27%), and the number of livestock kept was mostly 1 to 5 cows as many as 59 breeders (93.65%). Based on the results of this study, it can be concluded that beef cattle farmers in Lareh Sago Halaban District, Lima Puluh Kota Regency are in productive age, most of the breeders are male with elementary education level and the number of livestock kept on a small scale.Key words: Breeder characteristics, Beef cattle, Lareh Sago Halaban district.
