Description Introduction:Hyperlipidemia  causeoxidative stress. The latter was noted by increased MDA and decreased SOD level in the liver. The aqueous extract of combination of bay cedar (Guazuma ulmifolia), orange jessamine (Murraya paniculata), mulberry (Morus alba), and cassumunar ginger (Zingiber cassumunar) rhizomes(BOWM) is reported to have potential properties as an antihyperlipidemia and antioxidant. This study aims to find out the effect of BOWM on hepatic SOD and MDA levels in male rats treated with modified high-fat diet (MHFD).Method: A laboratory experimental with control group post tes only design. Twenty five male rats divided into 5 groups, negative control groups (KN), positive control groups (KP), and three groups of water extracts therapy (D1, D2, D3). The KP, D1, D2 and D3 groups receive MHFD for 12 weeks. The D1, D2, and D3 groups received the BOWM water extract, with a dose of 189 mg/200 gbw, 378 mg/200 gbw, and 756 mg/200 gbw per day for 12 weeks, respectively. Hepatic SOD levels were determined by using spectrophotometry and MDA levels determined by using TBARs. The data analyzed using One Way Anova followed by Least Significant Difference (LSD) test, the results are significant if p <0.05.Results: Aquesous extract of BOWM water extract unable to increase SOD and decrease MDA levels of the liver significantly. The liver SOD levels were KN (15.30 ± 6.32); KP (18.22 ± 7.10); KD1 (26.76 ± 14.37); KD2 (21.92 ± 14.45); and KD3 (27.28 ± 7.45). The liver MDA levels of the extract water of BOWM were unsignificantly reduced (p >0.05). The MDA levels in the liver, KN (996.00 ± 49.86); KP (1052.50 ± 78.99); KD1 (982.50 ± 57.05); KD2 (986.50 ± 69.69); and KD3 (1026.50 ± 62.40).Conclusion: The extract water of BOWM unsignificantly affect liver SOD and MDA levels.
