Description |
Background: Herb extract as an antibiotic adjuvant can reduce the antibiotic resistance problem. S. polyanthum contains some active compound such as flavonoid, tannin, saponin, and alkaloid that has antibacterial effect. The purpose of this research to know the combination effect between extract leaf S. polyanthum and amoxicillin on Escherichia coli and Staphylococcus aureus growth.Method: Methanol extract and leaf S. polyanthum decoction were dropped in the nutrient agar that contains the bacteria. Zone of inhibition (ZOI) test by using Kirby-Bauer method. The interaction of S polyanthum and Amoxicillin were calculated by using Ameri –Ziaei Double Antibiotic Synergisem Test (AZDAST) with significant level p<0,05. There were 5 group, high and low dosage of amoxicillin group (ADT and ADR), high and low dosage S. polyanthum methanol extract group (HDT dan HDR), high and low dosage S. polyanthum decoction extract group, polyanthum decoction extract and amoxicillin combination group (DSA), and the last was S. polyanthum methanol extract group and amoxicillin (EMSA) group against S.aureus and E.coli.Result: ZOI antibiotic combination and EMSA against Staphylococcus aureus ADT+HDT (14,3±0,5) (p>0,05) were higher than single ADT (11,3±3,0). ZOI antibiotic combination and DSA against Staphylococcus aureus ADT+HDT (17,3 ± 1.1) (p<0,05) were higher than single ADT (13,3 ± 0,5) and DSA against Escherichia coli ADT+HDT (11,0±1,0) (p>0,05) were higher than single ADT (7,6 ± 0,5).Conclusion: Antibiotic combination effect of EMSA against Staphylococcus aureus in all dosage has synergy effect. Antibiotic combination effect DSA against Escherichia coli in (ADT+HDT, ADT+HDR, ADR+HDT) has synergy effect.Keywords: Syzygium polyanthum, Amoxicillin, Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Antibiotic resistance antibiotik
