Description AbstractThis research is driven by the lack of variation used by teachers in carrying out the thematic learning process. This study aims to analyze the ability of teachers to do variations with 3 main components of teaching skills, namely variations in teaching style, use of media and patterns of interaction in thematic learning in Madrasah Ibtidayah Raudlatul Ulum Karangploso Malang in 4th grade. In the current era teachers are still explaining the material by always relying on verbal delivery without variation. This type of approach includes qualitative research with a type of case study. Data collection techniques include observation, interview and documentation. Data analysis techniques include data reduction, data presentation and verification. At the test stage the validity of the data includes prolongation of observation, increased perseverance and triangulation. The results of this study indicate that the teacher has tried as much as possible to apply various variations such as variations in teaching styles including the use of sound and position shifting, the use of media including pictures and interaction patterns which include discussion, questions and answers and quizzes. Specifically the students' responses during the thematic learning process contained 2 important points, namely active and passive responses. The constraints experienced by the teacher when doing variations are lack of media, the teacher cannot apply various patterns of interaction, different characteristics of students and the teacher has difficulty explaining learning 1-6 in a period of 1 week.Keywords: Teacher's Ability, Variation, Thematic Learning
